Afineevsky: “Felice di portare a Roccaraso mia esperienza su Ucraina: mondo può essere indifferente ma cinema rompe il silenzio”

🇮🇹 Il pluripremiato regista, nominato all’Oscar, riceverà il premio alla carriera in occasione della settima edizione di AmiCorti International Film Festival, in programma a Roccaraso (L’Aquila) dal 23 al 28 giugno. In programma anche una masterclass sul conflitto in Ucraina, sul girare in zone di guerra e la proiezione di ‘Freedom on Fire’.

Roccaraso (L’Aquila), 18 giugno 2025 – “Sono felice di condividere la mia esperienza con voi. Non vedo l’ora di essere a Roccaraso e di portare le mie storie a tutti voi, inclusa anche la mia ultima opera candidata agli Emmy, Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom. Questo film è il mio atto d’amore e di solidarietà verso il popolo ucraino. Racconta il coraggio quotidiano di uomini e donne che resistono non solo con le armi, ma con la forza della verità, della cultura e della memoria. In un mondo spesso indifferente, il cinema può diventare una testimonianza viva, un grido che rompe il silenzio”. Lo ha detto il pluripremiato regista, nominato all’Oscar, Evgeny Afineevsky, che sarà presente alla settima edizione di AmiCorti International Film Festival, in programma a Roccaraso (L’Aquila) dal 23 al 28 giugno. L’evento è dedicato al regista Ken Loach e vuole essere un punto di riferimento per il cinema indipendente e d’autore.

Proprio Afineevsky, insieme a Loach e a Paul E. Haggis riceveranno il premio alla carriera: Afineevsky sarà inoltre protagonista, il 26 giugno, della masterclass dedicata al conflitto in Ucraina con la proiezione di ‘Freedom on Fire’.

La fondatrice e direttrice artistica del festival Ntrita Rossi ha sottolineato di essere onorata “di ospitare due grandi registi come Paul Haggis ed Evgeny Afineevsky, che con le loro opere ci offrono visioni potenti e urgenti sul nostro presente. La masterclass di Afineevsky e la proiezione di Freedom on Fire ci conducono nel cuore del conflitto in Ucraina, restituendo voce e dignità a un popolo in resistenza. Allo stesso modo, la lezione di cinema di Haggis – due volte Premio Oscar – ci invita a riflettere sulle tensioni etiche e sociali al centro di film come ‘In the valley of Elah, più attuali che mai in questo tempo segnato da crisi e dalla fragilità globale”.

🇬🇧 Oscar-nominated director Evgeny Afineevsky to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at AmiCorti 2025

The Oscar-nominated, award-winning director will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the seventh edition of the AmiCorti International Film Festival, scheduled to take place in Roccaraso (L’Aquila) from June 23 to 28, 2025. The program will also feature a masterclass on the conflict in Ukraine, filming in war zones, and a screening of Freedom on Fire.

Roccaraso (L’Aquila), June 18, 2025 – “I’m happy to share my experience with you. I can’t wait to be in Roccaraso and to bring my stories to all of you, including my latest Emmy-nominated work, Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom. This film is my act of love and solidarity with the Ukrainian people. It tells the story of the daily courage of men and women who resist not only with weapons, but with the power of truth, culture, and memory. In a world often indifferent, cinema can become a living testimony, a cry that breaks the silence.” These were the words of Evgeny Afineevsky, who will attend the seventh edition of the AmiCorti International Film Festival in Roccaraso (L’Aquila) from June 23 to 28.

The event, dedicated to director Ken Loach, aims to be a reference point for independent and auteur cinema. Afineevsky, along with Ken Loach and Paul E. Haggis, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Afineevsky will also lead a masterclass on June 26 dedicated to the war in Ukraine, followed by a screening of Freedom on Fire.

The festival’s founder and artistic director Ntrita Rossi expressed her honor in hosting “two great directors such as Paul Haggis and Evgeny Afineevsky, who through their works offer powerful and urgent visions of our present. Afineevsky’s masterclass and the screening of Freedom on Fire take us to the heart of the Ukrainian conflict, giving voice and dignity back to a people in resistance. Similarly, the film lesson by two-time Academy Award winner Paul Haggis invites us to reflect on the ethical and social tensions at the center of films such as In the Valley of Elah, which are more relevant than ever in today’s time marked by crises and global fragility.”
